This item worked very well, the only negative comment was the instructions did not show that the cover would need to be cut for the interlock to operate correctly. Total installation time was 30 minutes including cutting the cover. Most of the interlock is hidden, the screw for the main breaker and the cover keeps the interlock in place. Siemens has a cross reference table to look up which part is needed.

After weighing my options, I decided to go with this Interlock for connecting my standby portable generator as opposed to a Transfer Switch. My reasoning was three-fold. First, I had the knowledge and skill-set to safely do either job myself. Second, the Interlock cost me less than $20 shipped as opposed to $350-$600 for a Transfer Switch. Third, the Interlock allows me to provide power to my entire home, whereas with the Transfer Switch I would be limited to just a few branch circuits. This Interlock is manufactured by Siemens, for installation in their own line of Load Centers. As a result, I found that it fit perfectly, remains in place very securely, and operates exactly as it should. Siemens makes different configurations of this device to fit the various layouts of boxes they sell under the Siemens, Murray, and ITE names. Choose carefully and you'll have an easy job ahead and a safe transfer system when the work is completed. This Interlock has one great advantage over many of the "after-market" options available. Because it attaches directly to the actual circuit breakers as opposed to the faceplate of the Load Center, it remains in place even if the Load Center cover is removed. This prevents the possibility of accidently having both "Mains" on at the same time creating a "back-feed" situation. This type of interlock must be installed directly under the existing Main Breaker, as a result you will have to relocate any existing branch circuits currently in those positions. Because of this, the installation will likely require a bit more work than opening the panel, slapping this in place, and putting in the single screw.I've included several pictures in the attached video to give you a better understanding of the work involved. Lastly, when you're done with the install, be sure to place clear instructions amp; a warning on the Load Center for others to see. The one you see in the pictures is something I made up myself as none is included with the item.Overall I found this to be an excellent item, well constructed, and at a very reasonable price.
Absolutely safe amp; best investment for running a generatorinsanely easy to install no modifying of the panel whatsoever you simply remove the panel faceplate place it over the breakers install a screw to secure it, reinstall panel faceplate, done... my house has the breaker panel outside and the only breaker in it was my main 200a breaker so it was ez to install it where it needed to be, I feel so much better and readily prepared for the florida hurricane seasons to come
