I bought the largest sphere. It had a bunch of shrimps to start with. However they were quickly dying one-by-one.. Eventually I got only one shrimp left that is still alive (it has been over a year now). I actually suspect that this one survivor shrimp cannibalized all the others. So the echo-environment is not that well balanced after-all :/

We purchased the Large sphere (Not the “Extra Large). While the larger spheres are much more expensive, the “large” size gives you at least 10 shrimp, and a sufficiently large living space. The larger spheres also have the additional ability to act as magnifying glasses. The sphere arrives very securely packaged.Very unique aesthetically, providing a fascinating decorative touch wherever it is placed. The placement location is important, you either need indirect sunlight or a low temperature artificial lamp. Probably best to avoid overly intense LED lamps, as there is the potential of damage to the shrimp eyes.We.have owned ours for over a month, and have already observed a female carrying eggs, as well as the almost microscopic babies.You need do nothing except observe. Both fascinating and relaxing.Of course with anything constructed of thin glass, young children must be warned not to touch or handle the sphere.Overall, the most fascinating and uniquely gratifying item we have ever purchased on Amazon! Highly recommendedWould make a unique gift, especially for someone interested in Biology, Ecology, or Science in general.

Just received my ecosphere. It’s like going to McDonald’s, you see the sandwich you want to order, looks great. They send you the order and it falls far past expectations. In the pictures the wood always looks nice and solid, like it belongs. My sphere looks like someone jammed a branch in the thing that doesn’t fit. Also, there’s generally a nice piece of food in the sphere, mines been dispersed into little filaments all throughout the water, kinda like barely visible hair everywhere. I’m very disappointed in the end product.

I have had one of these small versions that lasted years. I bought a larger more expensive one recently and it was 100% dead in a few months. It was placed next to the 4 year old one which is still alive so sun/heat exposure was identical. Contacted store and they provide no warranty or protection. YOU ARE TAKING A GAMBLE.
